Tripoli
Founded by the Phoenicians in the 7th century BC, Tripoli has more recently caught the attention of international oil executives who come to do business in the modern and growing business district. However this city offers a host of attractions for the leisure traveler as well. History buffs will marvel at the variety of architectural styles and monuments: from the well-preserved Italian colonial architecture in the old town, where you can sip an authentic espresso in one of many cafés, to the vast palaces, Ottoman statues and fountains, Roman arches and mosques scattered about the city.
