Timisoara
Timisoara is the largest city in western Romania and is a fascinating place due to its history - in its time, the Romans, Austrians, Germans, Serbs, and Turks have had influence on this city, and this can be seen in its architecture. Often referred to as "Little Vienna", there are theatrical and musical performances to be found at all times of the year, and with art galleries, museums and a wonderful nightlife on offer, there really is something for everyone. Timisoara has a lot of public squares and green areas, and is a joy to walk round - but if you do get tired, there is a great public transport system. As with most cities, there are lots of churches and museums to be seen and, of course, shopping and an abundance of places to dine.
