Belgium, the country of pralines and potato fries, might seem like a speck on the world map but it is an unmissable stop for a European trip. You can fly with Austrian Airlines to Belgium and, after taking the short train ride (which departs every 15 minutes) from Brussels Airport, head downtown to visit the spectacular Grande Place (Main Square) which, in even-numbered years, is full of flowers. Try to find The Manneken-Pis (Le Petit Julien) fountain! A trip to the Atomium, built for the 1958 World Fair, will leave you in awe, and when you're hungry, grab a cone-shaped packet of fries or a few pralines. Brussels is just the beginning: a small train ride to Waterloo will throw you back into history. Visit the Lion's Mound ('Butte du Lion') to mark the spot of the Battle of Waterloo of 1815. Belgium has a lot to offer!
